Crowning The winner of the 4th Nigerian Breweries/African Artists’ Foundation National Arts Competition

The 4th edition of the annual of the Nigerian Breweries/African Artists’ Foundation National Arts Competition has reached the final stage of announcing which
top 3 out of the 12 finalists will walk away with the cash prizes set aside for this year’s competition. This announcement will be made on the 15th of December, 2011 at the Civic Centre.
The theme for this year’s competition “Documenting changes in our Nation” was chosen to focus on the process of art creation as opposed to just focusing on the end product. In this edition, the 12 finalists were whisked away to a resort in Abraka, Delta State, Nigeria, for a 14day workshop (from the 14th – 28th November) which also gave them time to relax as they focused on creating their various pieces. The serene and healthy environment gave the artists inspiration to add or subtract from their works to make sure they had well finished products worthy of the grand prize.
It was not an easy task to pick the 12 finalists who are vying for the grand prize; Babson Ajibade, Chris Echeta, Gerald Chukwuma, Erasmus Onyishi, Folashade Ogunlade, Jude Anogwih, Chidinma Nnorom, Chidinma Nnorom, Samuel Palmtree Ifeanyichukwu, Olayinka Sangotoye, Taiye Idahor, Temitayo Ogunbiyi,  Uche Uzorka and Chike Obeagu (working together as one). The AAF selection committee had to assess about 270 entries received from different artistic genres including photography, painting, sculpture, mixed media, installation and video art. The cash prizes to be won are as follows: 3rd prize – N1,000, 000.00, 2nd prize – N1, 500, 000.00 and the 1st prize – N2, 000, 000.00
